Disease-free sugarcane varieties
Visacane is CIRAD's sugarcane quarantine service. It supplies disease‑free sugarcane varieties worldwide, to the sugar industry and to sugarcane breeding centres. The service is located at CIRAD in Montpellier, France, away from any sugarcane production zone, and is part of a plant pathology joint research unit.
The quarantine service glasshouses in Montpellier are under close surveillance. Varieties spend at least two years there: they are planted, kept under observation and treated before being shipped as cuttings, with guaranteed disease-free status.

A new training!
CIRAD organizes seminars in Montpellier for operators in the sugarcane supply chain who are faced with the established or emerging diseases of this crop, and who wish to use molecular methods to detect viruses and bacteria. Next session: 12 to 16 November 2012
